Cathedral Governance
Serving the Temporal and Spiritual Health of the Cathedral
Our Chapter is the governing body of St. Peter’s Cathedral. Working together with our Dean, who serves the clerical role of pastoral care and leading worship, we’re a group of lay leaders elected by our parishioners to look after the temporal affairs of a congregation.
Do you ever wonder why we’re called a “Chapter” and not a “Vestry”? A Vestry is the name given to such groups in most Episcopal parishes, while a Chapter serves an Episcopal Cathedral.

What the Chapter does
The Chapter has three primary responsibilities: managing the Cathedral finances; managing the Cathedral facilities; and choosing individuals to fill various positions of Cathedral leadership and representation, including the selection of a rector/dean and the selection of other individuals as the Diocesan canons and Cathedral bylaws may require.
In concert with the Chapter, the Dean and Senior Warden lead the Church and are responsible to the congregation for the physical and spiritual health of the Church.
Lay Leadership
Elected by the parish, serving the Cathedral
Chapter members help guide St. Peter’s Cathedral through faithful stewardship, thoughtful leadership, and care for the congregation’s shared mission.
